WeChat Groups, Agents, and Online Hospital Offers: Red Flags
Many foreign patients find help through WeChat groups, expat forums, social media, or private agents. Some help is genuine. Some is vague, overpriced, or conflicted.
Red flags
- They promise a famous doctor without written appointment confirmation.
- They say ordinary public hospitals are impossible for all foreigners.
- They ask for large payment to a personal account before explaining the fee.
- They refuse to name the hospital or department until after payment.
- They use fear: "If you do not pay us, you will not get care."
- They cannot provide receipts, invoices, or a written service scope.
Safer behavior
Verify with the hospital, ask for written details, keep payment evidence, and avoid paying a large fee just because the system feels unfamiliar.
Practical note: The point is not to avoid all paid help. The point is to know exactly what problem the payment solves, what the hospital itself charges, and what you can do directly.
