How to Avoid Unnecessary Repeat Tests in China

Repeat tests are sometimes medically necessary, but they can also happen because records are missing, images are not available, or different hospitals do not trust outside results.

Before repeating a test, ask

  • Is this test medically necessary today?
  • Can my previous result be used?
  • Is the previous test too old?
  • Is the image itself needed, or is the written report enough?
  • Will this test change the treatment decision?

Bring better records

  • PDF or paper reports.
  • Original imaging files if available.
  • Discharge summaries.
  • Medication and pathology records.
Do not refuse blindly: some repeat tests are important for safety. The goal is to ask why, not to block necessary care.

Practical note: The point is not to avoid all paid help. The point is to know exactly what problem the payment solves, what the hospital itself charges, and what you can do directly.
