Emergency Room or Ordinary Outpatient in China?

When symptoms are serious, do not spend hours trying to find the perfect outpatient appointment. Use the emergency department or call 120.

Use emergency care now for

  • Chest pain, severe shortness of breath, stroke-like symptoms, severe allergic reaction.
  • Major injury, heavy bleeding, severe burns, or loss of consciousness.
  • Severe abdominal pain, high fever with confusion, or rapidly worsening symptoms.
  • Any situation where delay could be dangerous.

Use ordinary outpatient for

  • Stable symptoms that can wait for an appointment.
  • Medication refill or follow-up.
  • Mild infection, skin problem, non-urgent pain, or planned specialist review.
Practical rule: if you are unsure and symptoms may be serious, choose emergency care first. You can move to outpatient follow-up later.
